New York, NY - September 15, 2008 - The Italian Academy for Advanced Studies in America, Columbia University, presents an exhibition showcasing the fascinating Italian island of Sardinia. The exhibition will be open to the public from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM each weekday from September 26 to October 9.

Daniela Zedda, a gifted Sardinian photographer, brings an eye-opening portrait of the wild and enchanting landscapes of the Barbagia and Nuoro regions of the island. She focuses on the small towns and the age-old handcraft traditions, some of them dying out as the population declines – but every location and each tradition offers a window on an unseen world.

At 6:30, during the opening reception, Anthropologist M. Gabriella Da Re (of the University of Cagliari) will give a brief talk on craftwork, culture and tradition.

This exhibition Part of the "Sardegna in NY" series of events.

The exhibition is supported by the Regione Sardegna
